Saina Nehwal in semi-finals of Swiss Open-2011

Saina Nehwal, playing to her potential has entered the semi-finals of the Swiss Open -2011 badminton tournament being played at Basel in Switzerland.

2nd seeded Saina defeated 6th seed Petya Nedelcheva of Bulgaria in the quarter-finals in two straight sets in just 38 minutes, 22-20, 21-17 to set up a semi-final clash with 4th seeded Youn Joo Bae of Korea.

Earlier in the 2nd round, Saina Nehwal avenged her All-England defeat loss against Eriko Hirose of Japan by defeating her in 3 sets, 21-15, 17-21, 21-11 in a match that lasted close to an hour.

All the other Indians are out of reckoning, with Ajay Jayaram and the men's doubles pair of Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas coming up with good performances before eventually bowing out of the tournament.

Ajay Jayaram did well to reach the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open-2011, defeating 16th seeded Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 15-21, 23-21, 21-19 in 53 minutes, in the 3rd round of the tournament, before going down fighting in the quarter-finals, to 4th seeded Sung Hwan Park of Korea 19-21, 19-21.

Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas, India's best men's doubles pair, did well to reach the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open-2011 defeating Denmark's 6th seeded pair of Mads Conrad Petersen/Jonas Rasmussen 17-21, 21-15, 21-15 in the 2nd round. Kumar/Thomas eventually lost to 4th seeded Chieh Min Fang/Sheng Mu Lee of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-final match.
