The WILSON Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 badminton tournament is scheduled to be played from 15th to 20th March 2011 in Basel in Switzerland.
The Indian badminton players in the fray at the Swiss Open are Chetan Anand, Ajay Jayara, Anand Pawar and P Kashyap in the men's singles, and Saina Nehwal and Aditi Mutatkar in the women's singles.
In the doubles section, Rupesh Kumar & Sanave Thomas are playing the men's doubles, Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponnappa in the women's doubles, and Jwala Gutta & Valiyaveetil Diju are participating in the mixed doubles.
The draws for the tournament are out, and there is an interesting draw at the Swiss Open in the case of 2nd seeded Saina Nehwal. In the first round, the ace Indian badminton player will be playing against the qualifier coming in from the qualifying rounds. And after that Saina is up against Eriko Hirose of Japan in the 2nd round who has defeated her in the last week at the England Open quarterfinal match. (assuming that both Nehwal & Hirose win their first rounds). Eriko Hirose had gone on to reach the finals at the England Open where she finally went down to Shixian Wang of China. So Saina will undoubtedly be looking forward to settle the score against Eriko at the Swiss Open.
None of the Chinese players are taking part at the Swiss Open.
National women's singles badminton champion Aditi Mutatkar will be playing the qualifying rounds, and she is drawn against Karina Jorgensen of Denmark in the opening round.
In the men's singles, Chetan Anand is pitted against Marcel Reuter of Germany in the first round. Chetan will be seen in action on the international ciruit after quite a long break.
Ajay Jayaram is drawn to play against 7th seeded Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka of Indonesia in the first round, while Anand Pawar will be playing against Eetu Heino of Finland. Highest ranked Indian badminton player in the men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap is the 6th seed at the tournament here, and he will be playing against Sven Eric Kastens of Germany in the first round.
In the doubles badminton events, the draws are as below:
Rupesh Kumar/Sanave Thomas Vs. Michael Fuchs/Oliver Roth (Ger)
Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa Vs. Johanna Goliszewski/Carla Nelte (Ger)
Jwala Gutta/V.Diju Vs. Johannes Schoettler/Sandra Marinello (Ger)
