Top seed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand defeated Arvind Bhat of India 21-18, 21-14 in a match that lasted 36 minutes at the Australian Open GP Gold badminton tourney being held at Melbourne in Australia. Arvind Bhat (world no.45) had earlier done well to reach the 3rd round of the tournament where he was up against Boonsak, who is currently ranked no.6 in the world.
The reigning National badminton champion of India, Arvind Bhat, was the lone Indian survivor left at the Australian Open, as all the other Indians in the fray had already crashed out of the tournament earlier.
Boonsak now holds a 3-0 head to head record against Arvind Bhat having defeated him twice in their earlier encounters. The last time Boonsak beat Arvind was at the Hong Kong Open Super Series in 2008 when he had won the match 28-26 20-22 21-14.
