Badminton Net - Rules

Rules related to the Badminton Net are given in the table below. The badminton rules and regulations are set by BWF (Badminton World Federation) which is the governing body for world badminton.

Badminton net rules related to questions such as those below are answered in the table.
1. What if the shuttle gets caught on the net?
2. Can a players racket cross the badminton net while playing a stroke?
3. If a shuttle is falling after hitting the net, can a player hit it again before it touches the ground?


Badminton Net – Rules;

Types of FAULTS related to the Badminton Net – When a Fault occurs, the player committing the fault loses the point

if, in service, the shuttle is caught on the net and remains suspended on its top

if, in service, the shuttle after passing over the net, is caught in the net

if in play, the shuttle passes through or under the net

if in play, the shuttle fails to pass over the net

if, in play, a player touches the net or its supports with racket, person or dress

if, in play, a player invades an opponent’s court over the net with racket or person,  except that the striker may follow the shuttle over the net with the racket in the course of a stroke after the initial point of contact with the shuttle is on the striker’s side of the net.

if, in play, a player obstructs an opponent, i.e. prevents an opponent from making a legal stroke where the shuttle is followed over the net;

Types of LETS related to badminton net – When a LET occurs, play since the last serve is not counted and the last serve is replayed again.

after the service is returned, the shuttle is caught on the badminton net and remains suspended on its top, or

Shuttle OUT OF PLAY

A badminton shuttlecock is not in play when it strikes the net or post and starts to fall towards the surface of the court on the striker’s side of the net;
