Anand, Ajay out of German Open -2011

Anand Pawar & Ajay Jayaram of India, who had won their first rounds of the YONEX German Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, could not make any headway further as both of them went down fighting in their second round matches.

In the 2nd round, Anand Pawar was pitted against world. no.22 Zhengming Wang of China (who is possibly one of the most improved player since last year if we only go by his progress made in ranking, which has been from over 200 at the start of 2010 to the number 22 that he is today).

Wang defeated Anand Pawar 21-17, 21-18. I had a word about the match with Anand just some time back on good old facebook, and he said that Wang fought much better towards the end of the match.

On the other hand, Ajay Jayaram was up against qualifier Keigo Sonoda of Japan, who is making a mockery of world rankings and is having a great run in this tournament having defeated 16th seeded Carl Baxter in 2 straight sets yesterday.
Sonoda defeated Ajay Jayaram after a tough 3-setter fight and the final score read 17-21, 21-7, 21-14.

With Anand & Ajay out after the 2nd round, and Anup Sridhar, Aditya Elango & Aditi having crashed out of the tournament earlier, the Indian challenge at the German Open Grand Prix Gold-2011 has come to an end.

Coming up next is a tournament that has always been considered very prestigious in the history of world badminton. The All-England Open badminton championship. It is scheduled to be played from 8th to 13th Mar-2011.
