The Thailand Open-2011 (SCG Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011) badminton tournament is being held at Bangkok in Thailand from 7th to 12th June-2011.
Saina Nehwal of India is the top seed in the women's singles event, of the Thailand Open-2011 Grand Prix Gold badminton event, while Chen Long of China is the top seed in the men's singles.
The Thailand Open GP Gold-2011 results for India so far, are as below:
Women's singles:
Arundhati Pantawane, fast rising Indian badminton star, who started here at the Thailand Open,as a qualifier, won the first first qualifying round defeating Hsiao Huan Chen of the Chinese Taipei 21-11 10-21 21-13. She also won her 2nd qualifying round against Chanida Julrattanamanee of Thailand by a score of 21-17, 21-12. However she could not get past the final qualifying hurdle as she lost in her 3rd match against Hung Yung Chan of Hong Kong by a scoreline of 18-21, 5-21.
In the first round of the main draw of the women's singles, top seed Saina Nehwal got past Lan Lu of China by a score of21-17 14-21 21-18.
Arundhati & Saina Nehwal, are the only 2 Indian women players playing at the Thailand Open-2011.
Men's Singles
All the Indian men got past the first round hurdle at the Thailand Open-2011.
14th seed and top men's badminton player P. Kashyap had to fight for 3 sets, but finally got the better of local lad Poodchalat Pisit of Thailand, 21-17, 9-21, 21-11.
Rising badminton star Sourabh Verma of India who caused a lot of eyebrows to rise at the India Open Superseries held earlier this year, defeated Andre Kurniawan Tedjono of Indonesia, 15-21, 21-19, 22-20 in a very close match.
RMV Guru Sai Dutt, defeated Kwong Beng Chang of Malaysia, 21-10, 20-22, 21-10 in 3 sets.
Ajay Jayaram, was the only one in the Indian men's camp, who came out with a clean 2-sets victory in the first round. He defeated Tien Chen Chou of Chinese Taipei, 21-14, 21-17. He next faces 4th seed Jin Chen of China in the 2nd round.
Top seed Chen Long of China, 2nd seed Boonsak Ponsana of Thailand, and 3rd seed Sung Hwan Park of Korea also went through to the 2nd round of the Thailand Open GP Gold-2011 by winning their respective matches in straight sets.
In the Men's Doubles, Rupesh Kumar & Sanave Thomas, India's top men's doubles badminton pair, would be playing their first round match later against the 5th seeded Chinese duo of Biao Chai & Zhendong Guo.
In the Women's Doubles, top women doubles badminton pair of India, Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponnappa, will be playing their first match against Lok Yan Pun & Ying Suet Tse of Hong Kong.
Jwala & Ashwini are seeded 8th at the Thailand Open-2011.
There is no Indian participation in the Mixed doubles. Jwala Gutta's mixed doubles partner V.Diju, has been out of action for quite some time now, since he decided to skip the India Open Superseries for getting treatment done for his back injury. Hope he gets back on court soon.
The Thailand GP Gold-2011, is a premier badminton event, being played at Bangkok in Thailand. On the professional badminton circuit, the Grand Prix Gold category badminton tournaments are next in importance & stature, only to the Super-Series tournaments.
