ARVIND BHAT REGAINS NATIONAL CROWN
31-year old Arvind Bhat underlined his experience while he overcame the challenge of World No.25 & top favorite P.Kashyap in straight sets, 21-13, 21-17 to regain the National Championship title for the second time in his career.
The two had earlier played against each other in the Singapore Super Series in June-2010, when Kashyap had reached the semi-finals defeating Arvind Bhat in straight sets in the quarter-finals of the event, and Kashyap, the highest ranked Indian player today in the mens singles, was no doubt the favorite.
However Kashyap, who was playing for his maiden title win, could not manage to maintain a 5 point lead in the first game, as Arvind used all the weapons in his repertoire to wipe out the 5 point deficit and level the game at 10-10. He maintained this tempo winning the first game 21-13.
The next game saw a fierce battle as the scores moved from 9-8 to 18-17, before Arvind finally closed out Kashyap's challenge winning the 2nd game 21-17.
