Jwala-Diju outclass world no.7 pair. Move to second round.
The Indian mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta & V.Diju, had a great outing today against the world No.7 England badminton pair of Nathan Robertson & Jenny Wallwork.
Jwala-Diju defeated Nathan-Jenny in a close match by a score of 21-19, 21-18 and have now advanced to the 2nd round, and they are now up against the Chinese pair of Tao Jaiming & Qing Tian, who are ranked 23rd in the world.
Jwala-Ashwini advance to second round.
Playing in her second match of the day, Jwala Gutta combined with her womens' doubles partner Ashwini Ponnappa to deliver a sterling performance in a tough match against the higher ranked Hong Kong pair of Tsz Ka Chan & Hoi Wah Chau.
In the nail-biting finish, Jwala-Ashwini prevailed by a score of 18-21, 22-20, 22-20.
Jwala-Ashwini will be playing Japanese pair of Mizuki Fujii & Reika Kakiiwa in the second round of this super-series badminton event.
Saina advances to next round after struggle
Saina Nehwal had to struggle to get past world no.21 Tzu Ying Tai of the Chinese Taipei, and won the close match by a very narrow margin. Saina won the match 19-21, 21-14, 22-20.
P Kashyap defeated Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk later in the day, by a score of 21-17, 21-9 to advance to the second round.
