The 75th National Badminton Championship has started at Rohtak in Haryana.

The championship was inaugurated at the Maharshi Dayanand University multi-purpose Indoor Gymnasium at Rohtak in Haryana, yesterday the 7-Jan-2010. The tournament is scheduled to take place from 7-10 Jan-2011.

Some of the top players are not participating in the tournament though. Haryana born Saina Nehwal is not playing. Also Jwala Gutta is not participating. Having said that, the good news for badminton fans is that quite a few exciting players worth watching are going to be in action.

Chetan Anand the defending champion and the top seed in the mens singles would be looking forward to defend his title. He has tough competition though, considering that 5 Indian badminton players are in the Top 50 list in the world today. Tough competition is expected from P Kashyap (the highest ranked indian who is currently world no.25).

Trupti Murgunde is the defending champion and top seed in the women's singles. She is also likely to face tough competition from fellow players such as Sayali Gokhale & Aditi Mutatkar.

In the mens doubles, Rupesh Kumar & Sanave Thomas, the highest ranked Indian pair as per the world rankings seem to be the top favorites to win the event. Akshay Dewalkar & Arun Vishnu, who are the top seeds will be having a tough fight to defend their title.

In the womens doubles event, the absence of Jwala Gutta & Ashwini Ponappa means that the top seeds are Prajakta Sawant & Aparna Balan, have a bright chance of winning the event.

In the mixed doubles, Aparna Balan & Arun Vishnu are the defending champions, who would be looking forward to retain their title.
